We're currently looking for more singers - basses and tenors especially!

The Micklegate Singers is a friendly choir made up of around 30–40 singers aged between 18–60, spread fairly evenly across the age range.
We specialise in contemporary music and older, lesser known works. We generally sing a capella or with minimal accompaniment, in four or eight parts. We rehearse on Thursday evenings in York during term time and perform three main concerts a year, with occasional extra seasonal concerts (including our annual Carol concert). Many members of the choir also perform in smaller groups, e.g. singing at weddings, singing madrigals, playing in a recorder ensemble, and even in our newly formed kazoo band. Don't worry, these bits are strictly optional! We also have regular choir socials.
If you enjoy singing, like the kind of music we perform and can read music, why not audition to join us? Get in touch with our chairman or our secretary—details are on our Contact Us page. You will be invited to come along to one or two of our rehearsals. After that, if you are still interested in joining, you will be asked to attend a short audition. During this, you will need to perform a short piece of your own choice, along with a sight-reading test and a basic aural test. No more than three people will be present at this audition; this is a relaxed test and not something to be afraid of!
Membership of the choir costs £60 per annum. This covers the hire of the rehearsal venue and the hire or purchase of music.
We are currently looking for more singers - basses especially. If you've been wondering about joining a choir, why not get in touch and come and sing with us. It doesn't matter what voice you are - we'd love to see you.
We look forward to welcoming you!
